Dr Quintas is originally from Brazil, where she resided until 1986. She then moved to Europe. There, she lived in different countries and was exposed to diverse cultures and languages. In 1994, Dr. Quintas moved to the United States, where she continued to pursue her higher education. Then she went on to complete a Masters Degree in Education, focusing on early childhood and early elementary years. However, the educational system limited her ability to work with families facing psychological challenges, grief, and trauma.
Dr. Quintas decided to return to University, this time completing a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. Dr Quintas worked in community mental health centers and private practices before applying to her PhD in Couples and Family Therapy. This is when she was exposed to psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings, which profoundly impacted her views on our needs to review current and traditional mental health practices in working with the 'so-called' chronically mentally ill. Since then, Dr. Quintas has continuously devoted her time in studying Trauma in its various forms, among others physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, and witnessing of Domestic Violence.
Her current private practice aims to serve the community with the latest research in the mental health field.
In addition to holding a Doctoral Degree, Dr. Celia Quintas has been licensed by the Florida Department of Health in Couples and Family Therapy and in Mental Health Counseling. She also holds a Qualified Supervisor Status by the State of Florida. Dr. Quintas is also a AAMFT Qualified Supervisor and both credentials allow her to assist future therapists in training.
Dr. Quintas has presented in various conferences in the United States and abroad. Besides her private practice, Dr. Quintas is an Adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Quintas' dissertation, Ohana and The Creation of A Therapeutic Community, was published by the Taos Institute.
